- May 2019: The latest Minister's report is now available. The report provides an assessment of the performance of the Water Plan (Georgina and Diamantina) 2004.

Lake Eyre Basin
The Georgina and Diamantina catchments form part of the Lake Eyre Basin which extends to areas in Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales and the Northern Territory. The Lake Eyre Basin is recognised nationally and internationally for its outstanding social, cultural and environmental values and economic opportunities.
The Australian, Queensland, South Australian and Northern Territory Governments are signatories to the Lake Eyre Basin Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA). The IGA commits states to development and implementing policies and strategies that avoid or eliminate adverse cross-border impacts while also allowing for economic development.
The Georgina and Diamantina water plan is consistent with the Lake Eyre Basin IGA.
As part of our role within the IGA, the Queensland Government prepared an Environmental Risk Assessment which identified 6 key threats that were likely to be a high-risk across the Lake Eyre Basin within the next 10 years.
