Fluing in recreational vehicles
This information will help authorised installers understand requirements for fluing gas appliances installed in recreational vehicles (RVs), including motorhomes, campervans, camper trailers and caravans.
AS/NZS5601.2:2013 'Gas installations - LP gas installations in caravans and boats for non-propulsive purposes' specifies the minimum safety requirements. The standard can be purchased from SAI Global.
Annexes and fluing
The standard requires flue terminals to be located in an outdoor position that allows the products of combustion to readily disperse and not cause a nuisance.
When certifying the gas system for an RV, you must ensure that there is:
- no annex fitted over a gas appliance flue terminal
- no stored annex or awning that when installed would compromise the compliance of the gas system.
You must clarify on any certificate issued the circumstances of the approval (e.g. 'RV with no annex' or 'RV with compliant annex').
Please note that it is an offence for a person to cause an existing gas system to not comply with a safety requirement.
