Updating the science and climate resilience in the Warrego, Paroo, Bulloo and Nebine water plan area
Since the current Warrego, Paroo, Bulloo and Nebine water plan was made in 2016, new scientific information has been collected on the water requirements of ecosystems.
New knowledge comes from:
- ecological assessments
- social and economic profile and assessments
- climate variability assessments.
This new information will be used to update the water plan, including flow objectives and performance indicators, to support sustainable water management.
Our water planning science is organised across 8 themes, outlined in the Water planning science plan (PDF, 10.1MB) and accompanying storymap.
As part of the review, we will consider new science from the Environmental Flows Assessment Program, which provides the evidence base for assessing how effectively water plan rules and strategies support ecological outcomes.
We will also review hydrology within the water plan area—the scientific study of how water moves, is distributed and is managed—to assess whether and how water availability has changed over time.
Queensland’s water plans in a variable and changing climate report (PDF, 19MB) identifies climate impacts across each of the water plan areas. For example, pages 66 and 67 provide a snapshot of observed and projected climate trends for the Warrego, Paroo, Bulloo and Nebine water plan area.
