Unallocated water in the Warrego, Paroo, Bulloo and Nebine water plan area

Unallocated water refers to water that is reserved by the water plan and is available for future allocation without causing unacceptable impacts to existing water users, cultural values, or the environment.

The current Warrego, Paroo, Bulloo and Nebine water plan identifies unallocated water for community and Indigenous purposes, or for any purpose (if the unallocated water is in the Bulloo catchment area or in a groundwater unit).

As part of the water plan review, we will assess how unallocated water is managed to ensure the region’s long-term water needs are met in a sustainable way.

The Warrego, Nebine and Paroo catchments form part of the Murray-Darling Basin and are classified as no-growth catchments. As a result, water use must remain within the sustainable diversion limits set under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan 2012.
