About the Pioneer Valley water plan area

The Water Plan (Pioneer Valley) 2002 (the water plan) area covers approximately 5,200km2 and supports the water needs of several urban and regional centres including Mackay, Walkerston, Eton, Mirani and Marian. Water supply for irrigation and people living in the Mackay region comes from 2 water supply schemes (WSS):

Water in the plan area also supports industry, agriculture and social, economic or cultural purposes including recreational activities, commercial aquaculture and tourism.

The draft water plan (PDF, 1.3MB) will continue to advance the sustainable management of water resources in the water plan area. This protects important environmental processes, ecological needs and cultural values that exist in the water plan area.
