Reviewing the Pioneer Valley water plan
We are reviewing and replacing the Pioneer Valley water plan. The status of this review is step 3 which includes a second round of public consultation as we release the draft water plan. Consultation is open now and closes on 19 December 2025.
What you need to know
We have reviewed feedback and completed technical assessments to produce the draft plan. We have also produced a draft water management protocol and water entitlement notice. These are formal documents to support the new plan and need to be reviewed with it.
You can have your say on all these documents at once.

Infrastructure
The scope of this review is limited to the management and allocation of water.
Any issues or comments relating to the assessment or approval of infrastructure proposals should be referred to the Office of the Coordinator-General.
Public consultation to date
During the preliminary public consultation period, 24 submissions were received from a range of stakeholders including local water users and entitlement holders, community, environmental and regional development groups, local government and industry bodies. We also undertook targeted engagement with key stakeholder groups such as local government, industry representative bodies, and First Nations groups. All submissions and feedback from engagement has been considered in the development of the draft plan.

From when we start a review to when the new plan is formally adopted takes several years.

The status of this review is step 3. We have released the draft water plan for second round of public consultation.

Consultation timeline
From when we start a review to when the new water plan is formally adopted takes several years.
- Step 1 (2022): We ask everyone for their ideas and suggestions through public consultation.
- Step 2 (2023–24): We review feedback and use technical assessments to develop the draft new water plan.
- Step 3 (2025): We release the draft for second round of public consultation. (Step 3 is highlighted to show that this is what we're doing now.)
- Step 4 (2025–27): We review and finalise the new water plan.
- Step 5 (2027): We put the new water plan in place.
What’s next
Step 4: We’ll review feedback received in step 3 and finalise the replacement water plan anticipated between 2025–27.
Step 5: The new water plan will be in place after appropriate approvals which is anticipated in 2027.
