Location

The Leyburn baseline is located within a scientific reserve (1/SP220298) situated approximately 10km northeast of the Darling Downs township of Leyburn. This site has restricted access.

Access

The site is accessed from Toowoomba via the Toowoomba Karara Road and Rosenthal Boundary Road. Rosenthal Boundary Road has approximately 4.5km of formed gravel road and 2km of graded track. This road is a dry weather only and high clearance vehicles are recommended.

Bookings

This site must be booked prior to use and a security key obtained from one of the business centres noted below. Contact one of the department business centres listed below to arrange bookings, payments and collection of security keys.

Design

Type: 7 station Schwendener. Stations are concrete pillars housed in fenced enclosures.

Datum RL: The datum plane is based on reduced level (RL) 415.0 metres. Reduced levels for the stations are derived from Station 1 – Permanent Survey Mark (PSM) 199101.

Alignment: Base alignment is from Station 7 → 2. Offsets are negative to the left and positive to the right of the line viewed from Station 7.

Notes

  • The security key will not be issued until full payment for the range use has been received.
  • Instrument observations should commence from station 1.
  • Observation may be impacted by significant shade from neighbouring trees in the afternoon.
  • This site should only be accessed in dry weather.
  • The security gate at the southern entrance should remain closed at all times to restrict livestock movement. Respect the property of adjoining landowners and their livestock.
  • Ensure all gates are closed and pillar caps are placed on pillars prior to leaving the site.
