Wet Tropics general reserve

Current status

The expressions of interest process for accessing unallocated water in the general reserve of the Wet Tropics water plan has now closed.

The expression of interest process attracted a number of responses which have provided valuable insights into the demand for unallocated water in the Wet Tropics water plan area.

Next steps

We have commenced a review of all information received to understand the location of the demand, the types of water products and determine how new water can be made available to support irrigated agriculture and other purposes across the Wet Tropics water plan area (see map below).

This information will also be used to inform the unlocking water project.

We will continue to engage with those that submitted an expression of interest, community members and other key stakeholders to help shape how water is made available.

You are still able to submit your interest at any time and make an application for new water should it be released.
