Change the location of a water allocation

You may need to change the location of your water allocation to enable a sale.

The location of the water allocation must be a zone specified in a water plan where water can be taken.

View locations of water allocations in your area.

Step 1: Confirm the change of location is allowed

There are trading rules in place that detail permitted and prohibited changes to water allocation locations.

Before applying to change the location of your water allocation, view the below water allocation locations tables for your specified area to determine if your proposed change is allowed. If you are unsure about the data in the locations tables, contact us.

If your change is allowed and you want to proceed, you must request approval from us.

If you construct works after changing the location of your water allocation, you will require an authorisation to construct works under the Planning Act 2016.

Step 2: Apply for a change of location

To apply for a change of location of your water allocation, you'll need to complete and submit the required forms and notify the relevant authority.

Application fees will apply when submitting and finalising your water trade.
