Penalties for illegal funny-money nights

If you host an unlawful 'funny-money night', you will be committing an offence under the Criminal Code.

The following fines apply to individuals or businesses that own, lease, manage, control or maintain the place where the unlawful funny-money night is held:

  • The maximum penalty for hosting an unlawful funny-money night is $103,620 (600 penalty units) or 3 years imprisonment.
  • The maximum penalty for 'conducting' an unlawful game is $34,540 (200 penalty units).
  • The maximum penalty for 'playing' an unlawful game is $6,908 (40 penalty units).

Fines are current at 1 July. The values change each year on this date.
