Declared Fish Habitat Area plans and locations

There are 72 declared Fish Habitat Areas (FHAs) along the Queensland coast that protect approximately 1.2 million hectares of high-quality fish habitats.

Boundaries

The FHA plans indicate the outer boundaries (or limits) of each declared FHA.

These are either defined:

• following along the waterfront (cadastral) boundary of the adjacent properties
• using other methods such as coordinates, bearings and distances from a fixed point.

• the area included within the boundary of a specific FHA and its management
• specific exclusions and inclusions that apply in declared FHAs.

FHAs are generally declared over unallocated state land. They may include national park and reserve tenure, but do not include land tenures such as freehold or leasehold, unless a specific written agreement is reached with the landholder. All FHAs exclude any area of a navigational channel marked by navigational aids.
