Management features
- Department of Primary Industries sampling stations in the Nassau River upstream to Scrutlou and Killarney Creek, and into freshwater areas, supported the original declaration.
- Seagrass monitoring sites as part of the Ports Corporation of Queensland project.
Habitat values
- Closed mixed-species mangrove communities (with some closed Avicennia patches)
- Extensive salt pans associated with the estuary.

- Conservation of commercial, recreational and Indigenous fisheries resources.
- Important barramundi recreational fishing destination.
