Management features

  • Department of Primary Industries sampling stations in the Nassau River upstream to Scrutlou and Killarney Creek, and into freshwater areas, supported the original declaration.
  • Seagrass monitoring sites as part of the Ports Corporation of Queensland project.

Habitat values

  • Closed mixed-species mangrove communities (with some closed Avicennia patches)
  • Extensive salt pans associated with the estuary.

Fisheries values

  • Conservation of commercial, recreational and Indigenous fisheries resources.
  • Important barramundi recreational fishing destination.
  • Important prawn and fish nursery area.
