Prohibited invasive animals
Everyone is obligated to take all reasonable and practical measures to minimise the biosecurity risks associated with invasive animals under their control. This is called a general biosecurity obligation (GBO).
Prohibited invasive animals are not present in Queensland and:
- would seriously threaten Queensland's agriculture, natural environment, livestock, human health and people's livelihoods
- must be reported to Biosecurity Queensland within 24 hours of the sighting. A person reporting the prohibited invasive animals must take all reasonable and practical measures to minimise the biosecurity of it spreading or escaping until they receive advice from an authorised officer.
Below are only a few examples of invasive prohibited animals. To understand what can be considered a prohibited invasive animal refer to the Prohibited invasive animals of Queensland fact sheet (PDF, 5.5MB).
