Report a faulty device
All measurement devices must be in good working order. Find out what to do if your water meter or device is faulty.
Your responsibilities
Routine maintenance of your water measurement device is your responsibility. We encourage you to check your device on a regular basis to make sure it's in working order.
If you become aware of or suspect a fault, you must:
- tell us within 3 business days
- record how much water you use while your device is faulty using the water use assessment report (PDF, 1.7MB) (W2F095)
- repair or replace the device and have it certified by a duly qualified person (DQP) within 30 business days.
Once your device has been certified, you must:
- submit your water use assessment report to us within 20 business days
- submit a completed information about water taken under an authorisation form (PDF, 463KB) (W2F169) to us within 20 business days.
Failure to complete these actions are offences under the Water Regulation 2016.
Reportable faults
Examples of faults may include devices that are:
- unreadable (e.g. from damage to the dial or glass)
- not recording water volume correctly
- leaking water or air from the device or its attachments
- broken or damaged tamper-evident seals
- not transmitting information if it has telemetry (remote monitoring).
Report a faulty device
If you become aware of or suspect a fault, you must tell us within 3 business days. You can report it in WaterIQ or email WaterHub@dlgwv.qld.gov.au.
You will need to tell us:
- details about the device that is faulty, or suspected to be faulty (make, model and serial number)
- the date you became aware of, or suspected, the fault
- details about the fault or suspected fault
- details of your authorisations that take water through the device
- details of any other people who take water through the device
- the name of the DQP, if known, who will certify the device.
Record and report your water use
Use the water use assessment report (PDF, 1.7MB) (W2F095) to tell us how much water you take through the faulty device.
Include your water use from the date your device is reported faulty to the date your device is certified. Once your device is certified, you have 20 business days to provide your completed water use assessment report to WaterHub@dlgwv.qld.gov.au.
Repair or replace a faulty device
You must arrange to repair or replace your faulty device and it must be certified by a DQP within 30 business days of you becoming aware of or suspecting the fault.
Once you report the faulty device, we will provide you with a meter case code to supply to the DQP, so they can submit the inspection form online in WaterIQ.
Other responsibilities
Once your device has been certified by the DQP, you must complete the information about water taken under an authorisation form (PDF, 463KB) (W2F169).
This form provides information to the us on the water meters and works you use to take water under the authorisations you hold.
You have 20 business days after the DQP inspects your device to submit the form to WaterHub@dlgwv.qld.gov.au.
