Queensland Great Artesian Basin Advisory Council

The Queensland Great Artesian Basin Advisory Council (QGABAC) is a key body that advises the Minister for Local Government and Water and Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers on issues affecting the Queensland section of the Great Artesian Basin.

The council plays a crucial role in the strategic management of the basin, ensuring that the best possible environmental, cultural, economic, and social outcomes are achieved for the basin and its users. It provides a platform for presenting the views of various industries, communities, and stakeholders, and it offers advice to governments and Ministers on a wide range of relevant issues.

Membership

Members bring a range of skills and knowledge to their role, including expertise in community engagement, water resources policy, water sciences and indigenous cultural water management.

Operating arrangements

The group meet at least 3 times each calendar year and report to the Minister.
