Lodging notices and reports for petroleum and gas safety and health

Executive safety managers and operators of operating plant must lodge a range of safety and health related notices and reports.

This page explains how to meet your notification and reporting obligations under Queensland resources legislation.

Prescribed incident notifications

You must report certain prescribed incidents immediately if they occur at your site. You must also submit written reports on all prescribed incidents. Read our guide to reporting incidents for details.

Annual safety reports

Executive safety managers must lodge an annual safety report on their operating plant each year. Email your report to gassafe@dnrm.qld.gov.au before 1 September each year.

Annual measurement reports

Measurement controllers must submit an annual report about their measurement scheme. Read the Guide to requirements for annual measurement reports (PDF, 222KB) for details of what to include.

Email your report to gassafe@dnrm.qld.gov.au before 1 September each year.

Commissioning notices for operating plant

Operators of operating plant must notify us within 20 business days before commissioning or operating the plant. Read the Guideline for completion of a commissioning notice required under s673 (PDF, 205KB) for details of what to include.

Email your commissioning notice to gassafe@dnrm.qld.gov.au before starting operation.

Section 7(4)(b) notice of alternate method of compliance

Schedule 1 of the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Regulation 2004 has a list of safety standards. Some are mandatory and others ‘preferred’. Alternatives to ‘preferred’ standards are possible, as long as you can demonstrate that the alternative ensures that the level of risk is equal or less than would be achieved by complying with the preferred standard.

If you are considering an alternative to a preferred standard, you must notify us in writing before doing any work. Read the Guide to standards exceptions under section 7 and 7A of the regulations (PDF, 123KB) for details of what to include.

Email your notice to gassafe@dnrm.qld.gov.au.

Petroleum and gas safety and health fee returns

You must lodge an annual return for the petroleum and gas safety fee. For more information on what to include and when to lodge, see our guide to the petroleum and gas safety and health fee.
