Responsible management of licensed venues (RMLV) training

Liquor licensees (if individuals), approved managers and some permit holders must hold a current responsible management of licensed venues (RMLV) certificate.

Note: If you're doing RMLV training, you don't also need to complete responsible service of alcohol (RSA) training.

How to access training

You must choose a training provider from this list of RMLV trainers who have been approved by the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation.

You can arrange training directly through the training provider.

How training is delivered

Depending on the provider you choose, the course takes a minimum of 10 hours and can be delivered:

  • in person, over 2 days
  • by videoconference—must be completed within 7 consecutive days from when you start the course.

RMLV certificate

When you successfully complete the course, the trainer will issue you an RMLV certificate. The certificate remains current for 3 years.

It's your responsibility to renew your training before your current certificate expires.

Licensees must keep a current copy of their approved managers' certificates at the licensed premises.

Information for trainers

If you want to be an approved trainer, access application forms and the RMLV approved trainer guideline.

We send new approved trainers the relevant trainer and participant resources and instructions on how to order RMLV course certificates.

We have updated the RMLV participant manual and trainer supplement. Key enhancements were made to:

  • tools and information to manage licensed venues responsibly and confidently
  • information on changes to the Liquor Act 1992, including new licence types
  • advice about legal obligations—to help licensed venues understand and effectively meet them
  • guidance on safety issues, including women's safety and drink spiking prevention.

These changes reflect the Queensland Government's commitment to supporting the industry in maintaining safe, compliant and community-focused licensed venues.
