VMS requirements in Queensland

Licensed fishing vessels operating in the following fisheries are required by law to use a vessel monitoring system (VMS):

East Coast Trawl No.1 T1
East Coast Trawl Concessional Zone T2
East Coast Trawl Moreton Bay M1
Torres Strait Prawn Trawl PR
Gulf of Carpentaria Net Fishery No.2 N9
Beche De Mer Fishery B1
Net Fishery (East Coast No.3) N4

Approved VMS units

A VMS unit must be a unit approved by Fisheries Queensland.

Below is a list of approved VMS units.

* No Trimble units will be approved for new installation

Mode of communication

If you are operating in a Queensland trawl fishery you must, by law, nominate a mode of communication by which your vessel can be contacted at all times.

You can update your details by submitting the Obligation to nominate a mode of communication for boat form to Fisheries Queensland.
