Funding for renewable energy research and development (R&D)

Financial assistance for businesses and organisations seeking to progress renewable energy projects, energy efficiency and clean technologies may be available. The main funding programs are the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC).

Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA)

ARENA provides long-term financial assistance for renewable energy technology innovation.

ARENA’s purpose is to support improvements in the competitiveness and supply of renewable energy and the uptake of energy efficiency and electrification by providing financial assistance and sharing knowledge to accelerate innovation that benefits all Australians and facilitates the achievement of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions targets.

Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC)

CEFC acts as a specialist investor to fill market gaps and collaborate with investors, innovators and industry leaders to spur investment where it will have the greatest impact.

The CEFC is playing a major role in nurturing the development of large-scale renewables across Australia.  CEFC capital is backing both large and small-scale generation and storage capacity, as well as transmission.
