Energy upgrades for government-owned community housing properties
This information is for community housing providers in government-owned buildings. Community housing providers who own their properties may be eligible for the Queensland Community Housing Energy Upgrades program.
We’re upgrading public and community housing properties to improve liveability and reduce energy use and costs for social housing residents across Queensland.
The upgrades include:
- ceiling insulation
- ceiling fans
- hot water systems
- cooling systems (in climate zone 3 only)
- solar for crisis accommodation properties.
You don’t need to apply for these upgrades. We’ll pay the costs and arrange to have qualified contractors install the upgrades.
When we identify your properties for upgrades, we’ll email you. Contractors will then contact you to schedule the installations.
You will need to give your tenants entry notices (Form 9) for when the works will be completed.
When the upgrades will happen
The upgrades began in April 2024 and are expected to be completed by 30 June 2027.
We are prioritising properties based on:
- location
- climate zone
- the age of the property.
