Renewable electricity generation technologies

Queensland is home to several co-funded research and development (R&D) projects in renewable electricity generation technologies.

Solar electricity generation technologies

The University of Queensland (UQ)

UQ has built Australia's largest flat panel PV array (1.22MW plus battery storage). It is conducting multiple research projects on this system and is streaming its performance data.

UQ's broad solar R&D portfolio includes:

Queensland University of Technology (QUT)

QUT is researching the use of dye-sensitised solar cells to power sensors for data collection in remote areas using nanomaterials.

Geothermal electricity generation technologies

The Queensland Geothermal Energy Centre of Excellence, based at UQ, is Australia's largest R&D centre for geothermal energy.

Current research includes large-scale electricity generation from subterranean hot rocks and hot sedimentary aquifers.
