Changes to retirement village operations

Changes in retirement village operations may include:

• the closure of a retirement village scheme (including temporarily)
• transition of control of a retirement village scheme to a new scheme operator (e.g. the sale of a retirement village operation)
• redevelopment of a retirement village.

The Retirement Villages Act 1999 includes requirements that scheme operators prepare plans for proposed changes in village operations.

Plans must be in the approved form and include information prescribed by the Retirement Villages Regulation 2018.

These requirements help ensure transparency in the relationships between operators and residents.
