Reporting fire ants
Fire ant treatment season is underway across South East Queensland in both eradication and targeted suppression areas.
If you have received a notice indicating that your property is scheduled for treatment, ensure you complete a property information form and alert us to any potential issues or information we need to be aware of prior to treatment.
Early detection is essential to control the spread of fire ants. Under the Biosecurity Act 2014, fire ants are a category 1 restricted pest and you are required to notify Biosecurity Queensland if you think you see them. Phone Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 or complete the online yard check report form .
In New South Wales, call the Department of Primary Industries on 1800 084 881.
In Victoria, call the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning on 13 61 86.
Be careful around fire ants
If you are stung, apply first aid for fire ant stings. Seek immediate medical attention if you are allergic to insect stings.
