Investing in Queensland's primary industries

Queensland's food and agribusiness sectors are world-renowned for producing high-quality, safe and sustainable food. It’s where innovation, natural resources and a forward-thinking approach create an environment for growth and investment.

Responsible investment in our primary industries means producing sustainably—being land stewards while also being productive and profitable.

Our industry

We have one of the world's most diverse and productive agricultural regions.

More than 80% of Queensland land mass is devoted to primary industries, supporting beef, cropping, horticulture, aquaculture, forestry and processing.

Investing in Queensland

Queensland is ‘investment friendly’:

  • We welcome private-sector investment from family farms to large-scale institutions that delivers economic growth, jobs and long-term value for the state.
  • Prosper 2050 provides a 25-year blueprint for primary industries.

Productivity uplift and advantages can be achieved through our:

  • land at scale across different geographical and climatic zones
  • counter-season climate, from temperate to tropical
  • proximity to Asian markets
  • skills, know-how and innovation, including strong research and development (R&D) capabilities.

Your investment is secure through strong regulation, extensive know-how and infrastructure such as roads, ports and distribution chains. We're focused on protecting your investment by strengthening resilience, improving practices, developing skills and managing biosecurity.

New opportunities exist through Australian and international food and beverage companies developing processing facilities. In addition, new and emerging opportunities include:

  • AgTech and innovation
  • feedstocks for renewable fuels
  • energy renewables
  • supply chain infrastructure and distribution
  • natural capital markets, including carbon and biodiversity markets.

The Queensland Government supports primary industries innovation with the Sowing the Seeds of Farming Innovation Fund, which is a $30 million initiative designed to accelerate innovation, adoption and productivity across the state.
