Avian influenza is a highly contagious viral infection of birds, including poultry.

Current detections in Australia

Victoria is currently responding to detections of H7 high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI).

A declared area is in place in Victoria to prevent movements that could spread the virus.

This outbreak is not the same as the H5 HPAI strain that is significantly impacting poultry, wild birds and mammals overseas.
