Eased quarantine requirements for close contacts on 28 April

From 28 April 2022, close contacts no longer have to quarantine as long as they:

  • do not have COVID-19 symptoms
  • test negative every second day for a week from the day of becoming a close contact (day 0, 2, 4 and 6). They can self-test using a rapid antigen test (RAT) kit; they do not need to get tested at a testing clinic.
  • wear a mask outside of home for 7 days
  • do not visit any vulnerable settings (hospitals, residential aged care facilities, disability accommodation services, corrective services facilities and detention centres) for 7 days
  • let their employer know they are a close contact, and work from home if possible.

  • closing and reopening
  • cleaning requirements.

Staff diagnosed with COVID-19

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 must isolate for 7 days from the date they tested positive.

A staff member who has completed their isolation and no longer has symptoms can return to work. You do not need to ask them to produce a negative test before they can return to work.

A staff member who has been directed to self-isolate by a health official may be able to access financial support through the Pandemic leave disaster payment (Queensland).

If several staff are in isolation, you may not be able to operate your business. Consider the following alternatives to temporarily closing your business:

  • look into temporary staff solutions, such as labour hire or agency staffing
  • consider the cost impacts on bookings and orders versus the cost of finding alternative temporary staff.

Staff who are close contacts

From 28 April 2022, quarantine requirements for close contacts eased.

A staff member who is a close contact can attend work as long as they:

  • do not have COVID-19 symptoms
  • test negative every second day for a week from the day of becoming a close contact (day 0, 2, 4 and 6). They can self-test using a rapid antigen test (RAT) kit; they do not need to get tested at a testing clinic.
  • wear a mask outside of home for 7 days
  • let you know they are a close contact, and work from home if possible
  • comply with any additional requirements set by your business (e.g. additional personal protective equipment (PPE)) if they cannot work from home.

Cleaning your premises

Clean your premises as soon as you become aware that someone with COVID-19 has been on-site.

You may need to close temporarily to clean, but most businesses will only need to close for a short time. You may need to clean your whole premises, or just a specific area.

You can use standard household cleaning products to clean your premises. A deep clean is not necessary.

You do not need to wait for confirmation from Queensland Health before reopening.

Communicate with customers and suppliers

You may choose to contact your customers to let them know that a COVID-19 case has visited your business.

Make sure you let your customers and suppliers know about the actions you've taken to make your business safe and when you are reopening, or if you will be operating at reduced capacity.

You should also keep in touch with your customers (and suppliers) if you need to cancel or postpone orders, events, functions, etc.

Queensland COVID-19 cleaning rebate

If your business or not-for-profit organisation has been a COVID-19 exposure site you may be eligible for a rebate of up to 80% of deep cleaning costs incurred in the 2021–22 financial year.
