Egg production in Queensland

Queensland's egg industry is an important and growing intensive animal industry that employs over 550 people and has a gross value of production of $202 million (2014-15 figures). The state is the second largest producer of eggs in Australia, producing over 25 million eggs per week, or about 28% of the nation's eggs.

Egg consumption continues to grow each year, with Australians now consuming, on average, over 220 eggs per person, per year. Whole eggs are usually marketed depending on the production system, either as:

  • cage
  • barn
  • free range
  • organic.
