Groundwater management in the Surat CMA
The Queensland Government established the Surat Cumulative Management Area (Surat CMA) in 2011 in response to coal seam gas development in the area.
The framework for groundwater management in the Surat CMA is provided under chapter 3 of the Water Act 2000.
This guide provides access to the Underground Water Impact Report (UWIR), associated technical studies, and a bore search for landholders to check predicted impacts on their bores. It also explains how the report is being implemented, including the responsibilities of tenure holders and government agencies.
In January 2020, the Surat CMA was amended to include, in future UWIRs, impacts from coal mining tenures located within the Surat and Clarence-Moreton basins.
