About the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games
In April 2018, Queensland successfully delivered the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018). Australia topped the medal tally with a staggering 198 medals comprising of 80 gold, 59 silver and 59 bronze medals.
Queensland welcomed athletes, officials, family, friends, volunteers, tourists and spectators from over 71 nations to the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville and athletes competed in 23 sports at 16 venues across the event and host cities.
An action-packed 11 days of sport, arts and culture inspired people from Australia and the world. More than 1.2 million tickets were sold to events and Festival2018 attracted more than 523,000 spectators.
GC2018 supported trade and economic growth, promoted equality and diversity; celebrated local and international culture, supported local artists, and contributed to active, healthy and engaged communities.
