Investing in Queensland's other advanced manufacturing industry

Queensland's other advanced manufacturing sector is highly successful, generating billions of dollars each year and employing many Queenslanders.

The Queensland Government's Office of Advanced Manufacturing and the industry advocate - Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) - provide significant support for the sector. This support makes Queensland's advanced manufacturing industry an attractive investment prospect for Australian and international companies.

Queensland's advanced manufacturing industry:

  • generates over $18.3 billion for the economy (2008-09 latest figures)
  • employs nearly 190,000 people in Queensland, making up 20% of the Australian industry (May 2009)
  • was the second largest contributor to Queensland's total factor income in 2008-09
  • invested $405.9 million in research and development (R&D) in 2007-08.

Queensland's other advanced manufacturing industry services several established sectors, including engineering, mining, medicine and aviation. It also services several high-growth sectors including electronics, rail equipment and services, and fibre composites.

Over the past 3 years, more than 3000 companies have reported around $150 million in annual sales, efficiency savings and new investments as a result of Queensland's advanced manufacturing sector.
