Cyclone and flood assistance for primary producers
If you have been affected by the January-February 2012 floods in Queensland, find out about assistance, grants and support.
Declared areas for freight subsidies
For Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasi, eligible primary producers can access freight subsidies of up to $5000 in the following local government areas:
- Burdekin
- Cairns
- Cassowary Coast
- Charters Towers
- Croydon
- Etheridge
- Flinders
- Hinchinbrook
- Mackay
- Palm Island
- Richmond
- Tablelands
- Townsville
- Whitsunday
- Yarrabah.
For flooding in Queensland in December 2010-January 2011, freight subsidies have been approved as Category B assistance for many affected local government areas (PDF, 24KB).
Freight subsidies for primary producers are available from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), which will pay up to 50% of your freight cost, up to a maximum of $5000.
Depending on the nature of the disaster and the damage that has occurred, freight subsidies in disaster-declared areas - or where producers have an Individual Disaster Stricken Property (IDSP) declaration - may be made available for the movement of one or more of materials such as:
- foodstuffs
- building/fencing materials
- restocking of livestock as a result of the event
- fodder
- machinery/equipment
- fuel.
Primary producers outside of declared local government areas who have been affected and wish to access this assistance can apply for an ISDP declaration.

Flood assistance: fodder assistance and donation
The Queensland Government and AgForce are helping to coordinate fodder drops for those primary producers in need of assistance after the November 2010-January 2011 Queensland floods.
Expenditure on fodder drops for stranded livestock is an eligible activity for grants.
If you need fodder drops, or wish to donate fodder, please contact the coordinators:
- Danielle Hogarth, AgForce Regional Manager, on 0427 021 370 or
- Ken Murphy, DAFF Senior Beef Extension Officer, on 0419 658 412
If you are donating fodder, you must ensure that the appropriate declaration forms are completed when moving hay from fire ant restricted zones or moving hay that is contaminated with Class 2 weeds.
