Cutting waste management costs

A new waste management law was introduced on 1 December 2011 requiring landfill operators to pay a levy for putting commercial waste in landfills. The landfill operators will potentially pass this cost on to businesses, so it's important to consider how you can reduce your business waste to save on waste management costs.

While many businesses are working hard to minimise waste and recycle resources, Queensland produces an unsustainable amount of industry-generated waste every year, with only about one-third of recoverable resources being recycled.

The government's waste reforms aim to reduce the amount of industry-generated waste ending up in landfill by encouraging reuse, recycling and resource recovery. Reducing waste can both save costs for your business and benefit the environment.

This guide explains Queensland's waste reforms and how you can rethink waste in your business.
