Exporting for growth

Exporting can lead to increased profits and accelerated growth. Exporting provides companies with a larger pool of buyers and clear advantages with economies of scale. In short, exporting can be a very positive move for your business.

However, one of the major hurdles for companies interested in exporting is accessing the right information. Below are several resources that can help Queensland businesses gain a better understanding of exporting.

Online export services
Queensland businesses can access information about exporting by visiting:

  • Trade Queensland is responsible for developing and supporting Queensland exporters

  • Austrade is an Australian Government agency responsible for developing and supporting Australian Exporters.

Further assistance
The following services can provide assistance for Queensland businesses wanting to better understand exporting:

  • Regional Trade Start Officers are specialist export advisors located in the Cairns, Central Queensland, Bundaberg, Gold Coast and Toowoomba regional centres.

  • Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland provides specialist export advice through its New Exporter Development Program.

  • Manufacturing and Service Industries Trade Start Officers - The Australian Industry Group provides free specialist export advisors for the Manufacturing and Service Industries located in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

  • International offices - The Queensland Government's overseas representation can provide tailored information to Queensland businesses about foreign markets. Offices are located in China (Shanghai and Beijing), Hong Kong and Southern China (Hong Kong and Guangzhou), Taiwan (Taipei), Japan (Tokyo), Korea (Seoul), Indonesia (Jakarta), India (Bangalore), Europe, Russia and Africa (London), The Americas (Los Angeles), United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi) and Saudi Arabia (Riyadh).

Workshops and seminars
The Queensland Government run a series of seminars and courses to help Queensland businesses find out more about exporting:

  • Departmental workshops and seminars on a range of subjects that are being held in your region.

  • The Getting Export Smart (GES) program is a practical hands-on export training workshop series designed to help Queensland-based companies take up the export challenge in overseas markets.

  • Export Master Classes focus on providing support for current exporters and cover areas including best practice export strategies, negotiation skills and financial strategies for export.
