Indigenous business development grant scheme

The grant scheme was established to help Indigenous people to increase their economic independence, create employment opportunities and to increase participation of Indigenous people in the economy.

There are two grant programs:

  1. The Indigenous Business Establishment program can support activities that lead to the establishment or expansion of viable Indigenous businesses

  2. The Indigenous Business Capacity Building program can assist Indigenous people through a range of activities to improve their business ready and management skills.

Who is eligible?

The following groups may apply to Indigenous Business Development for assistance:

  • Incorporated Indigenous organisations and groups
  • Indigenous companies
  • Indigenous community councils or local government councils representing the interests of Indigenous communities
  • Indigenous Partnerships or Sole Traders
  • Any of the above in a joint venture arrangement with non-Indigenous partners.

How do you apply?

  • Phone 1300 363 711 for details regarding your nearest Indigenous Economic Development Officer or Departmental Regional Centre.

  • Discuss your project with staff in one of the department's Regional Centres.

  • Obtain and complete a pre-application form with assistance from a Regional Centre. Your pre-application will be assessed and if viable, an application and supporting documentation will be requested.
