Water and your business - keeping you updated

As the levels of current water supplies in South East Queensland (SEQ) change, it is important for business and industry to keep up-to-date with water usage restrictions and saving measures.

Now that combined dam levels for SEQ have exceeded 50 per cent, the region has moved from high level restrictions and Target 170 to medium level restrictions and Target 200. This applies to Brisbane City, Ipswich City, Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Logan City, Moreton Bay Regional Council and Somerset Regional Council.

Regionally consistent residential water restrictions will commence for Redland City Council, Scenic Rim and Sunshine Coast Regional Councils on 1 December 2009. Compliance measures for non-residential users commenced on 30 March 2009.

The Gold Coast City Council area is on suspended restrictions for a range of outdoor water uses, but non-residential restrictions still apply.

Business and industry must continue to use water efficiently by operating in accordance with the business restrictions and with water efficiency management plans, retrofitting with water efficient devices and following best practice guidelines where applicable. The Queensland Water Commission, with Commerce Queensland, has established a register for all businesses seeking registration as a water efficient operator.

The Department offers a range of information to assist business to assess their risks and plan for the potential impact of water restrictions on their business.

The business continuity plan can assist small business owners with information and practical processes to help them prepare for emergencies. These processes are designed to enable small businesses to avoid, as much as is possible, damage and loss of business.

For current information on water restrictions, and how they may affect your business now and in the future, stay in touch with the Queensland Water Commission and Waterforever.
